Heart Stopping Bearded Dragon antics

This tale goes back to the May Bank Holiday weekend, I'm only telling it now cause I wanted to be sure it had a happy ending first.

On the Friday of that weekend I acquired a couple of baby bearded dragons, all was well with them in the first couple of days, eating well, good and active, all the things I look for. Everything was fine when I left the shop on Saturday evening, both beardies in attendance. When I got into the shop on the Sunday to check on everyone I could only find one beardie in the vivarium! I took everything out and dug through the sand in case it had buried itself, no sign. I started to wonder if there had only been one when I was leaving on Saturday, if maybe someone had pilfered one on Saturday and I had been dreaming when I was sure there had been 2 when I was closing.

So, I thought to myself, let's not assume I'm mad yet. So I started crawling around on my hands and knees hunting under shelves and anything it might fit under. There it was, looking very pale gone as far under a shelf as it could before getting jammed. I carefully teased it out and picked it up, sure that it must be dead it looked so lifeless. To my relief when I put it on my palm for a better look it moved slightly. With great joy I replaced it in the vivarium under the lights, praying that once it warmed up it would be none the worse for it's adventure.

That was more than 2 weeks ago and he is doing great. I still don't know how he managed to get out of the viv, the only possibility is where the slides back and forth the grooves for it had slipped slightly out of place, but it was a tiny crack. He must have shoved his nose in and pushed his way through and it slipped back after. I now have a lock on the doors, so they won't be getting out by themselves or with help.

Your Beardies

This reminds me of an instance...several instances of Gecko's escaping at the shop I used to work at as well as one Rose Tarantula who was spied near the ceiling of the building after making a daring escape. Thankfully we were able to get him down without injury. As manager, I started having to warn all employees at the shop that Gecko's like to hang out on the ceiling of their enclosure...be careful when opening!!
